Job Description

This a hybrid role. Candidate must be local to either Charlotte, NC or Hartford, CT.

Contract to hire opportunity. Candidates cannot require sponsorship either now or in the future.

W-2 hourly only. No C2C.

Our property & casualty insurance client is looking for a highly skilled and motivated Software Engineering Manager to lead our engineering teams in Insurance Product Delivery – Commercial Lines. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the development, implementation, and maintenance of software solutions that support our commercial insurance products. This candidate will be accountable for delivering software solutions and information systems to solve business and customer needs. This individual will oversee a team consisting of software engineers, responsible for supporting applications that are medium to complex in nature and of high strategic importance to the corporation. This role requires a strong technical background and excellent leadership skills.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage team(s) of software engineers, providing guidance, mentorship, and support to ensure successful project delivery.
  • Accountable for project scope, schedule, and budget ensuring commitments and progress are monitored closely and communicated clearly.
  • Collaborate with product managers and other stakeholders to define business outcomes, requirements, objectives, costs and timelines.
  • Trains, supervises, assigns projects to, evaluates, and is responsible for hiring/termination of information technology personnel and contracting staff to design, engineer, and implement systems software.
  • In conjunction with the architecture group, establish and enforce design and coding standards.
  • Ensure the team adheres to best practices in software development, including coding, quality, reliability and performance standards and documentation.
  • Monitor and evaluate the performance of the team, providing regular feedback and conducting performance reviews, ensuring high morale and appropriate advancement of individual goals and career aspirations.
  • Regular reporting of key metrics like resource allocation, software defects, productivity, and efficiency
  • Participate in the evaluation, acquisition, and implementation of vendor software to support business processes.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement, encouraging innovation and the adoption of new technologies.
  • Establishing and maintaining relationships with business and IT counterparts to ensure proper collaboration
  • Manage the budget and resources for the software development team, ensuring efficient use of resources.
  • Stay up to date with industry trends and advancements, incorporating relevant technologies and methodologies into the team's work.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Software Engineering, or a related field; Master's degree preferred.
  • Proven experience in software development and management.
  • Prior hands on application development experience using web based technologies and languages is preferred
  • In-depth knowledge of technologies including design patterns, web services and databases, software development methodologies, tools, and best practices.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills to work effectively with peers within and across organizations and ability to motivate and inspire a team.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to deliver compelling presentations and collaborate effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Experience with Agile and Scrum methodologies.
  • Strong ability to manage and execute on multiple projects, manage competing priorities and prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Experience in Property Casualty insurance a plus
