Job Description

Independent Electric is seeking an experienced, highly organized Shop Supervisor to lead our service center team in Kansas City, KS . In this role, you’ll oversee the day-to-day operations of the shop, ensuring that all repair work is completed efficiently, accurately, and on schedule. This is a hands-on leadership position that requires strong technical expertise, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities. 

Key Responsibilities:  

Operations & Scheduling:  

  • Oversee, coordinate, and prioritize all service work performed in the service center, ensuring an efficient workflow and timely completion of repairs. 
  • Serve as the primary customer service liaison, providing detailed repair quotes for welder repair, motor repairs, and machine work. Clearly communicate pricing, scope of work, and timelines to customers. 
  • Manage and schedule repair work in alignment with workload capacity, technician availability, and urgency of repairs to meet or exceed established deadlines. 
  • Accurately document all repair jobs in Motorbase , ensuring work orders are complete and reflect correct labor, materials, and repair scope. 
  • Review and validate job entries in Motorbase for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with company policies before processing. 
  • Maintain and oversee the job list , tracking all active and pending work to prevent bottlenecks and ensure job prioritization aligns with customer needs and business objectives. 
  • Monitor and manage technician productivity , setting performance expectations and ensuring technicians maintain efficient work habits while minimizing downtime. 
  • Track and compare estimated vs. actual hours for each repair job, analyzing discrepancies to improve scheduling accuracy, resource allocation, and efficiency. 

Technical & Customer Support:  

  • Provide technical support and troubleshooting guidance to technicians, ensuring they have the knowledge and resources needed to complete repairs correctly. 
  • Assist customers by responding to technical inquiries , diagnosing issues, recommending solutions, and providing a high level of service to maintain strong customer relationships. 
  • Follow up with customers post-repair, providing status updates, detailed repair reports, and recommendations for potential future maintenance or repairs to enhance service value. 

Leadership & Supervision:  

  • Directly supervise shop personnel, ensuring each team member adheres to company standards for quality and productivity. 
  • Provide mentorship and training , developing technicians’ skill sets to improve efficiency and technical competency. Implement training programs to keep the team up to date with industry advancements. 
  • Enforce and oversee all shop safety protocols, ensuring compliance with OSHA and company safety standards. Conduct regular safety meetings and inspections to maintain a hazard-free environment. 
  • Identify training needs for the shop team and coordinate ongoing education opportunities, including certification programs, manufacturer training, and hands-on learning. 
  • Maintain an organized, clean, and professional work environment by implementing daily housekeeping routines and assigning shop responsibilities to staff. 
  • Conduct shop tours for customers, vendors, or internal personnel, showcasing shop capabilities, workflow, and expertise to build confidence in the service center’s abilities. 

Quality Control & Documentation:  

  • Create technical drawings or illustrations as needed to aid in repair processes, component replacements, or custom fabrication work. 
  • Perform quality control checks on all completed repairs, ensuring workmanship meets company standards, industry regulations, and customer expectations. 
  • Generate detailed repair reports documenting findings, work performed, and recommendations for future maintenance to provide customers with comprehensive insights into their equipment. 
  • Ensure QM Wizard software is utilized for tracking and documentation, ensuring compliance with EASA accreditation requirements and proper documentation of all AR-100-standard repairs. 
  • Oversee job quoting, time tracking, and material cost management , ensuring all repair estimates accurately reflect labor, parts, and resource allocation while maintaining profitability. 

 

 

Qualifications:  

✔ High school diploma or equivalent (required). 

5+ years of on-the-job training and experience in electric motor repair. 

Prior experience in a supervisory or leadership role within a service or repair shop. 

✔ Strong understanding of electric motor systems, repair techniques, and diagnostics. 

✔ Ability to read and create technical drawings and schematics. 

✔ Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and time-management skills. 

✔ Strong communication skills to effectively coordinate with team members and customers.
