THE ROLE– Engineering Manager, Cloud

My client is seeking an individual with a strong hands-on background in AWS and GCP, and proven experience managing cloud infrastructure using Terraform. This role blends technical leadership (60%) with strategic team management (40%), which would be ideal for someone ready to transition from senior engineering to a broader leadership role.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Lead and manage day-to-day operations of cloud infrastructure (AWS & GCP), ensuring high availability, scalability, and security.
• Oversee infrastructure powering a Looker dashboard (hosted in GCP) and a mobile app (live in the Google Play Store).
• Provide hands-on support and guidance to engineers in IaC best practices (Terraform).
• Take initiative in identifying and implementing innovative solutions that improve system performance and team workflows.
• Champion and expand the organization's AI capabilities using AWS services, including Amazon Q and Amazon Bedrock.
• Lead efforts to productionalize AI use cases at scale, contributing to AI culture across the company.
• Execute on long-term vision, helping shape infrastructure that can support multiple teams and evolving technology stacks.
• Mentor and grow cloud engineers, promoting a collaborative and high-performance culture.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Ample experience in cloud engineering with several years in a leadership or senior-level technical role.
• Deep hands-on experience with AWS (primary) and GCP (secondary).
• Proven expertise with Terraform and modern infrastructure-as-code practices.
• Experience with building and scaling AI solutions in production using Amazon Q, Bedrock, or similar AWS AI/ML services.
• Strong strategic mindset with the ability to manage and inspire a team.
• Excellent communication skills, with experience translating technical decisions into business outcomes.
• Demonstrated success in executing a cloud vision and leading initiatives from idea to deployment.
• Previous experience managing or contributing to mobile and dashboard-based applications is a plus.
• Experience migrating infrastructure or leading DevOps/Platform Engineering teams.
• Passion for building and scaling AI strategies within cloud ecosystems.
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, containerization, and security best practices.
