Job Description

The SNUG Street Outreach Program is a pioneering initiative aimed at reducing gun violence by treating it as a public health issue. Supported by the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services, SNUG operates across 11 sites in New York, employing outreach teams of credible messengers to mentor high-risk youth. The Social Work/Case Management Initiative, in partnership with the Office of Victim Services, enhances SNUG's capacity to address trauma and improve access to victim services. This role offers a unique opportunity to make a significant impact in communities affected by violence, providing trauma-focused support and guidance to both program participants and staff.

Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with the SNUG team to support high-risk individuals affected by community violence.
  • Provide therapeutic services to victims of violence and their families, offering both short and long-term support.
  • Facilitate debriefing sessions and provide ongoing training for SNUG staff to manage work-related stress and trauma.
  • Develop and implement onsite programming, including support groups for staff, participants, and families of homicide victims.
  • Supervise a site-based case manager to ensure comprehensive case management services for crime victims.
  • Respond to community violent incidents, attend outreach events, and conduct home visits as needed.
  • Build relationships with hospitals and crime victim service providers to enhance service utilization.
  • Participate in trauma training and clinical supervision, adhering to documentation and reporting standards.
  • Travel for training and conferences, including a week-long initial training and biannual conferences in Albany.
  • Provide emergency support to the SNUG team during critical incidents.
  • Perform other relevant duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in social work or a related field from an accredited university.
  • Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) required.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience working in or near SNUG target areas.
