Senior Wetland Specialist

Our client, an innovative Wetland and Natural Resources consultancy, is excited to welcome a Senior Wetland Professional to their team in their close-knit and collaborative Northern Virginia office .

Key Responsibilities

As a Senior Wetland Specialist, you’ll bring valuable expertise and a problem- solving mentality to a number of different projects. Core responsibilities include:

  • Conduct wetland delineations following the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers 1987 Wetland Delineation Manual and Regional Supplements, focusing primarily on the Eastern Mountains and Piedmont (EMP) and Atlantic & Gulf Coastal Plain (AGCP) regions.
  • Perform forest stand delineations and tree assessments in urban environments.
  • Carry out studies on the Chesapeake Bay Area, as well as research on threatened and endangered species.
  • Prepare technical reports and maps using CAD, as well as write proposals.
  • Oversee and manage multiple projects, ensuring they stay within scope, budget, and schedule while maintaining high-quality standards for deliverables.
  • Liaise with local, state, and federal agencies.
  • Provide mentorship and training to junior staff.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 3-5 years of relevant experience in environmental consulting and project management.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Ecology, Botany, Environmental Science, or a related field.
  • Strong knowledge of local, state, and federal regulations and processes in Virginia, Maryland, DC, and West Virginia, particularly related to land development.
  • Proficient in field techniques such as wetland delineations, plant identification, soil sampling, and conducting threatened and endangered species studies.
  • Team-oriented with a desire to collaborate effectively.
  • Comfortable with a mix of office and fieldwork across all seasons and willing to travel regionally.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
