Job Description

Job Title: Quality Control Inspector Level II

Department: Quality Control

Reports to: Quality Assurance Supervisor

As duties and responsibilities change, this job description will be reviewed and subject to changes of business necessity.

Position Summary:

Inspector to engage in identifying defects after product is developed and manufactured, and identified and help eliminate root-causes in support of the QMS before it progresses. Effort to perform acceptance inspections of machine parts, electro-mechanical sub-assemblies and continuity checks, utilizing industry standard tools and equipment so that the customer requirements are assured.

Essential Functions:

  • Read blueprints and specifications.
  • Inspect parts, make sure parts are to blueprints.
  • Inspect, test, or measure materials or products being produced.
  • Write NC’s for all products and materials that fail to meet specifications.
  • Discuss inspection results with those responsible for products.
  • Report inspection and test data.
  • Perform acceptance inspections of machined parts including detailed first article inspections per blueprint, sketch or engineering order.
  • Perform acceptance inspection of mechanical and or electro-mechanical assemblies or sub-assemblies prior to integration, per blueprint, BOM and schematics.
  • Perform Receiving inspection of material and customer items for integration or repair as CFM, GFE, or other such parts, material or assemblies subject to a careful QA review.

Knowledge and Critical Skills/Expertise:

  • Good working knowledge, familiarity and ability to use standard industry measuring tools including but not limited to: Calipers, Micrometers, Height Gauge, Depth Gauge, Hardness Tester, Pin Gauges, Thread Gauges, Surface Plate, Rules, and DMM, etc.
  • Good working knowledge of shop math (trigonometry, geometry, algebra)
  • Good written and verbal communication skills relative to the industry, including the ability to understand, read, and write English fluently.
  • Computer literate, with a good-working knowledge with the PC and or MAC and associated industry software (Microsoft (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Acrobat, etc)
  • Operates under moderate supervision.
  • Understanding of complex drawings (blueprints, schematics, etc.) and specifications.
  • Good working knowledge of shop math (trigonometry, geometry, algebra.)
  • Some knowledge of ISO, AS, AMS, AES, FED-STD and or MIL-Specs & Standards.

Additional Qualifications:

  • Another plus for consideration would have the applicant familiar with additional advanced inspection skills such as the ability to use a CMM, Faro-Arm, Oscilloscope, Cirris Logic Tester equipment.

  • A superior applicant would be familiar with robotics, aircraft, automotive construction, and or have some similar experience(s) with electronics and electro-mechanical assemblies involving tight-tolerance Machine-fabricated parts, Gears, Bearings, Motors, Servos, CBA's, Wiring Harnesses, Synchros, Resolvers, Encoders and Slip Rings.

Language/Communication Skills:

Education and/or Experience :

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or 2+ degree in the aerospace or automotive industry, and 5 years of practical experience with the inspection of machine parts, electronics and ability to read schematics. Computer literate and familiar with using Microsoft Office products. Proficient in MS Word and Excel.

Environmental Conditions:

Workers are in heavy-manufacturing plant and may be exposed to the noise and grime of machinery. Inspectors work in clean, air-conditioned environment suitable for testing products.

The performance of this position normally requires exposure to typical manufacturing areas were under certain conditions that require the use of personal protective equipment such as Safety Glasses with Side Shields and mandatory hearing protection. Primary environment: Temperature of work area may be affected by outside temperatures and machining. Industrial lighting provided.
