Job Description: PMHNP (Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner)
Location: Johnstown, PA
We are seeking a motivated and experienced Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) to join our healthcare team in the greater Johnstown, PA area. As a PMHNP, you will provide compassionate and comprehensive mental health care to patients of all ages, with a focus on diagnosing and treating various psychiatric disorders.
Responsibilities:
1. Conduct initial psychiatric evaluations and assess patients' mental health status, medical history, and symptoms to establish accurate diagnoses.
2. Develop personalized, evidence-based treatment plans tailored to each patient's unique needs, utilizing a range of therapeutic interventions, including psychotherapy, pharmacotherapy, and other modalities.
3. Prescribe and manage psychotropic medication dosages, closely monitoring patients for adverse reactions or potential side effects.
4. Collaborate and consult with a multidisciplinary healthcare team, including psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, and other healthcare professionals, to ensure comprehensive and integrated care for patients.
5. Provide ongoing psychiatric follow-up care to monitor treatment progress, adjust medication regimens, and address any emerging mental health concerns.
6. Offer education and counseling to patients and their families or caregivers, empowering them to actively participate in their treatment plans and understanding mental health conditions.
7. Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records, ensuring compliance with all legal and ethical standards regarding patient confidentiality and documentation.
8. Stay informed about the latest advancements in psychiatric care, attending professional development activities, conferences, and workshops to enhance clinical knowledge and skills.
9. Adhere to all applicable federal, state, and local regulations and guidelines governing mental health practices and prescribing practices, including controlled substance regulations.
10. Foster a therapeutic and empathetic environment, promoting a patient-centered approach that prioritizes inclusivity, cultural sensitivity, and respect for diversity.
Requirements:
1. Current, unrestricted Nurse Practitioner license in the state of Pennsylvania, with a specialization in psychiatric and mental health.
2. Certification as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) or the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP).
3. Proven clinical experience as a PMHNP, preferably in an outpatient mental health setting.
4. Solid understanding of psychiatric disorders, their diagnostic criteria, and evidence-based treatments.
5. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to establish rapport with patients, their families, and other healthcare professionals.
6. Strong critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities, with the capacity to assess risks and determine appropriate treatment plans.
7. Proficiency in utilizing electronic health record (EHR) systems for accurate and timely documentation.
8. Ability to work collaboratively within a team-based care model, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability to meet diverse patient needs.
9. Committed to ongoing professional development and continuing education.
10. Valid DEA (Drug Enforcement Administration) registration or eligibility to obtain one.
