Materials Science Project Manager

(Full time-On site Johns Creek, Georgia)

The QUIKRETE Companies is seeking exceptional candidates for a Project Manager role at our new corporate Engineering & Technical Center located in Johns Creek, Georgia.

Successful candidates will contribute to the growth of The Quikrete Companies by coordinating multiple product development, product improvement, quality, compliance and technical service projects. We are known for our leading position in bagged cement-based products, cement production, concrete pipe & block manufacture, metal pipe production and storm water management systems. We also have a significant presence in the CASE space, selling waterproof membranes, moisture barriers, sealants, sealers, and coatings. The Project Manager will coordinate projects largely in the materials science arena. While this is definitely not a software development role, many project management skills are similar and candidates with software development experience are welcome to apply. Significant Project Management experience in the materials space is preferred.

Job Responsibilities

The successful candidate will lead process discipline and maintain project tracking to ensure projects are initiated, executed and completed in an efficient manner. Duties include:

  • Support project teams as they discover, develop and deploy new products, identifying schedules, scopes, budget estimations, and implementation plans, including risk mitigation
  • Establish and maintain relationships with relevant stakeholders, providing day-to-day contact on project status and changes
  • Ensure teams adhere to processes such as our staged “Discovery-Development-Deployment” product development process, Raw Material Evaluation process, and Technical Service Review process.
  • Analyze project status and, when necessary, revise the scope, schedule, or budget to ensure that project requirements can be met
  • Coordinate internal and external resources to ensure that projects adhere to scope, schedule, and budget
  • Track the project portfolios of Research and Development, Quality Assurance, Technical Service and Compliance
  • Lead regularly scheduled project and portfolio review meetings

This role is the project management “Subject Matter Expert”, helping project leaders and management execute, track and complete projects on time within expected resource allocations.

Expected Experience and Competencies

  • 5+ years of experience in project management with a history of successful product launches
  • Professional certification such as Project Management Professional (PMP) or similar certifications highly preferred
  • Experience leading large multifunctional teams (R&D, Product Management, Manufacturing, Technical Services, Sales, QA/QC, etc) to establish project goals, scope, resource needs, and timeline
  • Ability to influence without formal authority
  • An obsession for organizing, prioritizing and planning, with strong attention to detail
  • Experience with project management software such as Microsoft Project, Jira, or Smartsheet
  • Able to work in a collaborative environment and at all levels of an organization
  • Exceptional written, verbal, and presentation skills
