The Opportunity
We’re looking for a Digital Producer with experience working in a fast-paced, collaborative, and professional storytelling environment as our team grows and develops a distinct online approach to serving our weekend audiences.
Digital producers at OPB bring their news judgment and an understanding of audience analytics to play when they copy edit OPB original stories, curate opb.org, select stories from our wire sources and content partners, write effective headlines, and elevate important work across social media and the First Look email newsletter. Although digital producers move quickly on competitive breaking news stories, accuracy and fairness always come first, and we also value the time it takes to give the best support to an in-depth enterprise project.
This new team member will be a leader of our weekend efforts. They’ll typically work a Thursday through Monday shift, with a heavy focus on bolstering OPB’s online voice and presence on Saturdays and Sundays. Our department works in a hybrid environment. Team members have the opportunity to work anywhere within OPB’s coverage area of OR and SW WA with high-speed internet and/or they can come into the office. Oregon Public Broadcasting is a hub of the regional news ecosystem in Oregon and Southwest Washington, with television, radio and digital platforms.
You will be one of seven digital producers reporting to the Executive Editor of Digital Programming. The team works in close collaboration with OPB’s other content teams, with daily interactions with News reporters and editors, as well as opportunities to collaborate with journalists on our Science & Environment and Arts & Culture teams. Much of a digital producer’s daily work is focused on production and promotion of online stories, including copy editing, curating visuals, improving headlines, optimizing stories based on SEO principles, crafting social media posts to promote those stories, and curating opb.org. There are occasional opportunities for original journalistic storytelling or to engage in digital journalism product leadership, based on the strengths and interests of each digital producer on the team.
OPB is a member-supported public media organization with a commitment to public service, equity, and community.
