Job Description

Criminal and DWI Defense Attorney/Lawyer

Do you have a passion for courtroom advocacy? Do you aspire to represent individuals and make a difference in their lives? Due to our rapid growth, our firm currently has multiple openings for a criminal defense attorney/lawyer with the ability to handle court proceedings, engage with clients, and conduct consultations with leads. The ideal candidate possesses courtroom experience and exceptional interpersonal communication skills. We welcome applications from recent law school graduates and experienced attorneys with a background in criminal law.

Benefits:

  • Technology allowance
  • Paid time off (PTO)
  • Paid holidays
  • Occasional work from home
  • Health insurance
  • Disability insurance
  • Retirement plan with 3% employer match
  • Mileage reimbursement
  • Licensing fees and professional memberships reimbursement
  • CLE reimbursement

We currently have multiple openings available, and we would be especially interested in hiring at least one attorney who lives in Jefferson County or Franklin County, as we are looking for someone to cover those jurisdictions.

Compensation:

$80,000 - $135,000 yearly

Responsibilities:

Our “Responsible Attorneys” manage a caseload based on jurisdictions. You will have primary responsibility for everything that happens in the cases assigned to you, including:

  • Conducting evidentiary hearings, depositions, and trials
  • Meeting with clients to discuss discovery and negotiate pleas
  • Communicating with prosecutors, judges, and court representatives
  • Participating in docket calls in state and municipal courts
  • Performing legal investigations and preparing documents
  • Handling consultations with leads and assisting in signing them up
  • Attending legal proceedings, carrying out legal analysis, and providing legal advice with the help of experienced lawyers
  • Collaborating with clients and colleagues to reach resolution of cases
  • Analyzing disputes in legal issues, counseling clients on solutions, and negotiating on behalf of clients
  • Managing case files by ensuring that the most recent updates are accessible to other attorneys, paralegals, and staff

You will report to a Supervising Attorney, who will mentor you and help you with things that are new to you. And you will work closely with the Client Care Team to make sure clients are fully informed about the status of their case at all times.

We have staff, systems, and processes in place to make our attorneys as efficient as possible. Because we represent all of the clients on a flat-fee basis, we want our attorneys to do only work that truly requires a bar card.

Qualifications:

The ideal person to fill this role will be an organized, responsible self-starter with integrity and a positive attitude. The applicant should be eager to learn and motivated to obtain the best possible outcomes for clients. Other requirements include:

  • Possess a Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Be a licensed attorney in the state of Missouri.
  • Possesses strong typing and technology skills.
  • Proficient in computer skills and technology, including Word, Excel, database software, and Outlook.
  • Demonstrate excellent organizational and follow-up skills.
  • Be an effective communicator in both oral and written form.
  • Showcase great time management and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Be able to work well alone as well as be part of a team.
  • Professional demeanor and excellent people skills
  • Exercise flexibility, initiative, good judgment, and discretion.
  • Have an Illinois law license (preferred but not necessary)
  • Have satisfactory results in relevant assessments.
  • Be a self-reliant individual who thrives on learning and obtaining the best results for clients.
  • Possess a 'growth mindset' and be open to utilizing technology.

We base all personnel decisions on our Core Values: (1) Uncompromising Integrity, (2) Caring, (3) Teamwork, (4) Relentless Focus on the Client Experience, and (5) Growth Mindset. Feedback is common in this position, although always positive and constructive, so it is important that the attorney selected for this position is able to accept and act on feedback. Our goal is to help you become the best criminal defense attorney you can be.
