Correctional Psychiatrist – Kern County, CA (#R10043)

Employment Type: Full-Time | Hourly Rate: $225/hr

Greenlife Healthcare Staffing is seeking a Correctional Psychiatrist to join KernBHRS, providing specialty behavioral health services to Medi-Cal recipients and uninsured individuals within Kern County detention facilities. Ideal for a psychiatrist with forensic experience looking to make a direct impact in competency restoration and mental health care within the correctional system.

Schedule

• Full-Time | 8-hour shifts (e.g., 7:00 AM – 3:00 PM).
• 10–12 inmate evaluations per day, including CST assessments and prep for court testimony.

Key Responsibilities:

• Perform competency-to-stand-trial (CST) evaluations (Penal Code 1369).
• Manage opioid withdrawal using approved medications.
• Create safety plans for high-risk inmates (e.g., BPD, self-harm).
• Coordinate post-release continuity of care with community resources.

Qualifications:

•   License: Active California Medical License.
•   Certification: ABPN board-certified in Psychiatry (Forensic Psychiatry preferred).
•   DEA Certification: Required.
•   Experience: Strongly recommended in correctional or forensic psychiatry.
