We are seeking a dependable and experienced Bookstore Manager (Key Carrier)to join our team. This position plays a vital role in the day-to-day operations of Village Books, overseeing staff, ensuring excellent customer service, and managing store opening and closing responsibilities. The ideal candidate has prior bookstore experience, thrives in a customer-facing environment, and is committed to delivering an exceptional experience for every visitor.
Serve as a key carrier with responsibility for store opening, closing, and securing the premises.
Supervise daily operations, ensuring a clean, organized, and welcoming store environment.
Provide outstanding customer service by greeting, assisting, and engaging with customers to meet their reading and product needs.
Maintain knowledge of inventory and make informed recommendations across genres and categories.
Oversee cash handling, point-of-sale (POS) system operations, and daily reconciliations.
Assist in receiving, shelving, organizing, and displaying new inventory to maximize sales and highlight featured titles.
Train, coach, and support bookstore staff as needed to maintain high service standards.
Coordinate in-store events, book signings, or community gatherings when scheduled.
Monitor sales goals and assist management in driving store performance.
Communicate effectively with leadership about staffing, inventory, or operational needs.
Prior bookstore or retail management experience required (at least 1–2 years preferred).
Strong leadership and organizational skills with the ability to supervise and motivate team members.
Excellent customer service and interpersonal communication abilities.
Experience operating a POS system, and performing reconciliations.
Ability to lift and shelve books (up to 30 lbs.) and stand for extended periods.
Flexibility to work mornings, evenings, weekends, and night shifts as required.
A genuine passion for books, literacy, and fostering community through reading.
