Position Summary The Gillman Immigration Law Firm is seeking a bilingual (Spanish/English required) Contract Immigration Attorney based in Minnesota to join our growing removal defense team. This attorney will focus on removal defense, defensive asylum, and bond motions. Ideal candidates will bring knowledge, creative lawyering, expertise, and a commitment to fighting for immigrants' rights. It will require a once-a-month in-office check-in to discuss case status updates Why Join Us? Responsibilities: • Coverage for both master calendar and individual hearings representing clients as secondary in removal proceedings, including asylum, adjustment of status, cancellation of removal under INA Sections 42A and 42B, and other immigration reliefs. • Prepare and file bond motions and other relief. • Provide legal counsel and strategic guidance to detained clients. • Visit detained clients in detention facilities to provide legal support and consultations. • Maintain excellent communication with clients, courts, and partner agencies. • Stay updated on changes in immigration law and policies. • Meet at the office location once a month to discuss case strategies. Qualifications: • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school. • Licensed to practice law in at least one U.S. state. • Minimum 3 years of experience in immigration removal defense , including defensive asylum and bond proceedings. • Bilingual proficiency required . Fluency in English and Spanish required. • Excellent legal research, writing, and analytical skills. • Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and manage high-stakes legal issues with professionalism. • Experience collaborating with attorneys, paralegals, and community partners. Job Requirements • Based in Minnesota (due to jurisdictional and coordination needs). • Must be responsive, detail-oriented, and committed to trauma-informed, client-centered representation.
