What does an Assistant Plant Director do at Rinnai?

This position is responsible for the management of all production operations across multiple shifts. Additionally, this position is responsible for meeting all site goals related to Safety, Quality, People, Service, Cost and Housekeeping Excellence. The Assistant Plant Director will review operations daily to ensure attainment of established goals for the Plant, Division and Company. This position will support site Safety and Compliance efforts through continuous improvement activities that ensure all requirements are completed in a timely manner.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for manufacturing teams’ performance and delivery of manufacturing controllable P&L including current and future site growth and expansion.
  • Direct reports to include production Team leaders, Group leaders and Managers and all sub tier reporting leadership organization.
  • Provide dotted line leadership support to peer leaders & organizations including Safety, Quality, Continuous Improvement, HR, Facilities & Engineering
  • Support Plant safety initiatives to ensure all work is being performed in a safe manner. Ensure continuous safety improvement in culture, programs, and activities.
  • Coordinate manufacturing activities to ensure safe production of high-quality products within specification.
  • Responsible for quality control within the manufacturing area of responsibility.
  • Manage production associates and leaders to build a culture based on Rinnai’s cultural beliefs to attract and retain top talent, drive a high level of performance and ensure respect for all associates.
  • Execute production schedules based on sale forecast and inventory targets. Revise production schedules based on priorities and as a result of equipment failure, operating problems, etc.
  • Develop and revise operational and work procedures and resolve operational and manufacturing problems to fulfill production requirements and achieve site objectives for safety, efficiency, productivity, quality, and service.
  • Plan and direct production activities and establish production priorities for products in keeping with effective operations and cost factors.
  • Execute TPM and coordinate production and maintenance activities to obtain optimum production and utilization of human resources, machines, and equipment. · Coach, train, manage and motivate production supervisors.
  • Analyze production capacity and recommend improvement strategies to Manufacturing Director
  • Routine administrative/managerial functions, performing annual performance reviews with subordinates, actively participate in budget planning and fill in for supervisors as needed.
  • Develop department goals and objectives, communicate goals with team and engage associates in continually improving every aspect of the portion of the business they are responsible for.

REQUIREMENTS:

KNOWLEDGE

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering of a related technical field; management degree also acceptable
  • Certification as Lean and/or Six Sigma Green Belt preferred.
  • Five years of manufacturing, operations experience.
  • At least two years of previous supervisory experience
  • Strong knowledge and experience with ISO 9000 Quality System.
  • Previous experience with Safety systems and enforcement of Safety rules and policies
  • Formal training and/or experience with continuous improvement tools such as Six Sigma, 5-S, Lean Manufacturing
  • Demonstrated understanding of the principles and applications associated with manufacturing operations, maintenance, and engineering.
  • Basic financial acumen to understand financial impact of decisions on the operation.

  • Well-developed analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills, with the ability to balance production and maintenance needs.
  • Computer literacy to include but not limited to MS Office products.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
